you can use simxGetStringSignal/simxSetStringSignal/simxClearStringSignal, or simxReadStringStream /simxWriteStringStream, using simxPackFloats/simxUnpackFloats to write/read an array of floats to/from a string. It's not possible with the old ROS plugin.

Use the new RosInterface plugin.

You have to manually create a publisher with simROS.advertise, and publish the data with simROS.publish.

Have a look at the rosInterfaceTopicPublisherAndSubscriber.ttt scene, and the ROS tutorial.

You can send and receive any ROS message with the RosInterface plugin. Any kind of message is sent and received in the same way. You can extract it with the simOMPL.getPath function.

By the way, OMPL has optimizing path planners, and also multi-query path planners, so you might probably want to check those out first.
