Simple joint question

Post by blimie »

Hello everyone. Just found out about this simulator and I am trying to test out the waters! I should take this opportunity to congratulate the developers for such fine job. I wish I had this simulator when I was starting my research... oh well!

Anyway. I am trying out a simple joint mechanism. Ultimately I want to use it as a bumper sensor.

I create 2 cubes and I want to connect them with a prismatic joint. I read in the manual that in passive mode the joint should act as a fixed link. However, when I try this, the cube just falls to the ground. The attached image explains it. What am I doing wrong?

Thank you!

Hello,

use a force/torque sensor instead. Or, if you want to use a prismatic joint, then it should be in force/torque mode. If the prismatic joint should simply keep its position, then you will have to enable its motor, and also enable its position controller.

Cheers

Thank you. I will use the force/torque sensor. So does the passive mode of the joint has any use?

yes, the passive mode can be used when you do not want a dynamic behaviour.
