Is it possible to make the ambient light completely go away, and only work with manual added lights (such as directional etc.)?

Refer to the environment dialog.

That is only the color of the ambient light..I want the ambient light completely gone, so the scene would be pitch black..!

Turn ambient color to [0,0,0] and remove all other lights. Then you technically have no lighting in the scene.
You can also turn the background color to black in the same environment dialog.

Thanks, my bad. I missed the three default lights that are added to a scene... :)
