I just wanted to inform you about Boost.DLL, which is a library under peer review for acceptance into the boost C++ libraries right now. You may want to have a look at it and give feedback even if it wouldn't be practical to switch to it. If it were practical, I think it could make integrating plugins with vrep simpler and more efficient.
