simulating magnetic force

Post by muhammad.khan »

hi,
I am trying to simulate my robot with its magnetic feet (so that the robot stick its leg to the ground/wall and then move the other leg and vice versa). I have looked into a magnetic demo in Coppelia but when i try to attach those magnets with my robot model and increase the nominal force, the robot still can not attach to the surface. what could be the problem or any hint to solve this by another way?
1. Is it the robot weight which is too large ?
2. Is it the way i am using magnets from simpleMagnetdemo in coppelia ?

any help will be appreciated.

thank you.

Hello,

you can simulate magnets in 2 different ways:
  • by adding auxiliary forces to your body. This approach is quite difficult and not really stable
  • best is to create a loop closure constraint, and have the physics engine pull both bodies towards each other
  • you can of course also combine above 2 approaches
Cheers
